Edition 38X Review and Photo’s

Edition 38X Review and Photo’s

Well this year being the tenth anniversary of the Edition 38 show we decided to do the full weekend! We arrived in Northampton at around 5pm on the Friday and got onto the site very quickly. We were initially surprised at the price of £30 a person for the whole weekend but within a couple of hours we could see that security had been tightened and the fact that the whole area had been fenced off made you feel better about leaving the cars.

Regular security patrols of the campsite kept any incidence that we saw to a minimum. In fact the only issue we had was a bunch of max power Muppet’s parking in the quiet camping area and proceeding to play euro pop at full volume. I might be 37 but i like a bit of dance and drum and base but what these guys were playing made me cringe lol.

Friday night was a nice chilled night of beer mellow tunes and catching up with some friends. Saturday morning saw the start of the show and shine. Edition charged £5 to enter the show and shine which was a first for both Mark and myself but seeing the number of people who wanted to go on the field I can see what they were trying to do. I think we will see more charging to enter show and shine to keep the quality of the cars entering at a premium.

Mark took the Passat on stage during the day which was cool chatting about what he had done to the car and our other projects including my Sportback and our MK1 Polo. They announced Edition’s ten of the best around 5.30pm with two of our friends Ryan with his immaculate red VW Lupo and Nathan with his individual A3 Sportback on air ride walking away with prises!

Saturday night saw the surprise of Head Kandi DJing the main tent and they rocked it big style. We all managed a decent nights sleep that night. Sunday morning saw the main day of Edition 38 start with earnest. There was a queue to get in the show and shine at around 7am and by 9.55am they announced that no more cars could enter as the field was full. We chilled out during the day walking round the field chatting to people about their cars and taking loads of photo’s. Prises were again announced around the 5.30pm mark.

Although the cost to enter the show was expencive the overall vibe was very chilled and a credit to the guys that run it. I think they hit the nail on the head with the security and the overall quality of the services the toilets remained clean in the main and it was great to be able to grab a hot shower first thing in the mornings.

Edition 38 crew the show was a credit to you guy!!!

I’ve taken plenty of photo’s so enjoy!

Started work on the engine bay

Well the sanding is completed. Were just waiting for our body shop to come over and show us where they want the pannels cut for the new ones to go on.

We’ve started to clean the ziebart off the engine bay so that we can cut the rear tray out and smooth it all ready for the respray. Were using petrol and cloths to clean the worst off it off and it works quite well although it’s hard work. If the weathers good next weekend we should be able to get this finished on the Saturday.

Sunday were off to DC10 really looking forward to this show!

Here’s a few catch up pictures of our MK1 Polo still looking very sorry for it’s self, we cant wait to see it with a fresh coat of Manila Green paint.

All Types 2010

Went up to North Wales to the All Types show. The weather was great the only things we forgot were our cloths and fire lighters for the BBQ doh! The party on the night was a good laugh but some people didn’t know when to stop drinking lol.

There were a lot of cars in the show and shine including Janets awesome Lambo MK4 but what was disapointing was that the show and shine wasn’t held in classes but just a top ten. Now I had nothing to show this weekend, but I think classes work better than the top ten because it give different people a chance to win for the model they love.

Anyway here are the pictures enjoy!

Still looking for Polo TDI

I’m still on the look out for a little 6n2 polo 1.4tdi. Isn’t it always the way that when you have the money there’s never the car you want available.

I was hopeing that I wouldn’t have to travel to far but it’s looking like I’ll have to increase my search area.

The Hunt for another Polo

Well with the Beetle gone I’m on the look out for a Polo to use to run back and forth to work.

Ideally I’m after a Polo 6n2 1.4TDI for under £2000. There are a few about so I think it’s just a mater of finding the right one. One thing I do know is it wont stay standard very long.

I went up to see one in Bradford last weekend the ad read immaculate condition inside and out and from the pictures on Piston Heads it looked pretty tidy. Now for £2600 I’m not expecting showroom condition but as long as its not dented and looked after I’ll be happy. Anyway we arrived in Bradford expecting a tidy well looked after motor.

It was a knacker! There was a scratch on every pannel down to the undercoat (it was dark metalic blue) the bonnet, rear drivers side door and boot had dents. Rust on the roof it was a joke the guy just kept saying what do you expect from a ten year old car? Well you wrote the advert mate and you call that immaculate? who are you Steve Wonder? We took it for a test drive forgiving the exterior and half way down the road the ABS light came on. Now he said this car had done 51k but i recon from the interior wear and the condition of the exterior it had done twice maybe three times that.

Anyway if anyone reading this knows of a tidy 1.4TDI Polo up for sale let me know :)

Polo sanding again

Well with the weather as good as it was over the weekend I cracked on with the sanding. The roof is now down to the metal and this now leaves us with the bonnet, drivers side, tail gate and one door to sand. The it’s the engine bay were going to clean it all out first then decide what needs cutting out and smoothing. Main thing was that after the winter it was great to get back into the project!

Snow snow go away

Ok it was great to have a white Christmas and some time with the family but it does mean the Polo is on hold at the moment. All were able to do is continue to source parts and plan what we want to do.

We have managed to find a welder so we just need him to come and look at the Polo and give us a cost for the work needed. I’ve also got a source in Germany who’s supplying us with new widow rubbers all round with the chrome inserts and a front and rear chrome bumper.

On another note I’m also trying to make time to recondition the MK5 Golf R32 brakes I’ve acquired I’m going to take them back to the metal then I’m going to decide if I want to keep the silver which will be difficult to keep clean. Or spray them with textured black paint I’ve brought from Frost.

The Polo’s alloys and a set of Carlssons we’ve brought are now with Dav at PureKLAS so really looking forward to how they come back. When they do come back Dav’s taking my 19″ Audi A6 BBS split rims of for a refurb as well.

So all I want now is the snow to melt and the weather to warm up a bit!

Open Heart Surgery on the Polo

Sorry for the delay in updating the blog just been so busy!

Anyway last Saturday was the big day for the engine coming out. After spending an hour rebuilding the front of the Passat, Mark had installed new headlights and it was a bigger job than it looked. Then we got the engine hoist delivered and moved on to the Polo.

It took us about an hour and a half to disconect all the pipeing and linkages to the engine but once this was done and the manifold was dropped out the bottom of the car, the engine lifted out with ease. Now thats in storage ready to be stripped cleaned painted and polished ready to go back in once the cars been repainted.

Now we can start cutting sanding and smoothing the engine bay. So were on the final push on the prep work we recon its going to be mid January that the polo can have the weilding done.

On the plus side Dav at PureKLAS is taking the Polo’s allys away to be stripped and polished cant wait to see them finished!

More Sanding

Just a quick update after returning from Rayvern Hydraulics, we spent a couple more hours sanding the Polo. We are getting there slowly the roof is half done so we should finish that when we get back next week. After that the rest shouldn’t be to much, the biggest job left to do will be getting the engine out and smoothing the engine bay. We’ve managed to source an engine hoist so we just need a few good weekends and the car will be getting ready to go off for the welding.

Starting to see the light!

Well the metal!

We’ve spent another six hours stripping and sanding the MK1 Polo and it’s starting to show progress. We have decided to take the outer shell back to the metal so that it can have a proper job done on the respray and we can makes sure that there is no underlying rust issues. So far we’ve been over the moon with a car that’s thirty two years old, its got minimal rust and rot issues and what we have found were either replacing the panel completely or the area can be patched.  All this work now will hopefully means less prep work required by the body shop who will do the respray down to a minimum cost.

We recon two more days like saturday and we will be ready for the car to go in for the welding. We need to hire an engine hoist to take the 1.1 power plant out to give us access to the engine bay and allow us to smooth it.

While the cars away we’ll then be able to work on the engine cleaning painting and polishing and also spec out the interior retrim.
