Passat gets new wheels
We spent this Saturday at our local tyre fitter swapping the tyres on my Golf onto the E Class Mercedes rims I brought and fitting a set of tyres to the Carlsson alloys Pureklas polished for us and trying them on the Passat.
It was touch and go when the Passat was on the jack it looked as though there was no way the Passat would drop to the floor. So after fitting front and rear wheels on the drivers side we test lowered the rear with a magazine between the wheel and the arch to try and stop any damage if it was to close. We dropped it down and with luck on our side the camber pulled the rim under the arch!
We did the same with the front and off side wheels which all tucked nicely. And the result?
See for yourself…

Sent the Mercedes Carlsson W220′s I brought in November off to Dav at PureKLAS to be polished. We weren’t sure what we were going to do with them but Mark’s decided he wants to try them on Passat.
The only thing we are worried about is how the rear wheels will sit with the air-ride as they are half an inch wider than Marks current wheels at 8.5″. But they are smaller being 18″ rather than 19″. The ET is slightly lower on these as well being ET35.
Anyway I’ll get some pictures up when we trial fit them the weekend and there going to have a nice bit of stretched rubber on them so if they do poke a bit at the back they will look sweet.
Sorry for the pore quality picture that’s mobile phones and garage strip lighting for you lol.

Well I just can’t help myself lol. Spotted a set of 18″ Mercedes E Class wheels up for sale on Edition 38 very cheap. I need a new set of wheels for my MK5 Golf because the R32 reps I’m running at the moment are knackered. The rubber on them is good but the alloys themselves have seen better days.
So when I spotted the Merc rims I jumped on them. There in very good condition and wont need a refurb they are 18″ x 8.5″ fronts and 18″ x 9″ rears so the tyres i have on my reps will look nice on the merc rims with a bit of stretch.

Well I’m a wheel whore I admit it I like nice rims! So if a set of wheels appear that need a bit of work I’m always willing to have a look. At the start of the year a set of 18″ Mercedes Avantguards came up on Edition 38 that had been paint stripped but needed finishing off. So I stripped them down and gave them to Rainbow Polishers to have mirror polished. Rainbow did an amazing job they looked the business but, I was going to have some stretched rubber put on them then put them on my MK5 Golf.
But I’m only keeping the Golf till early next year when I’ll be having my mom’s A3 so there’s no real point in doing much to it. So I was thinking of selling the Mercedes rims until a set of Audi A6 BBS split rims showed up on Edition 38. I pm’d the guy selling them and asked if he was interested in a straight swap for my mercs which he agreed to so now I have these 19″ x 9″ BBS rims for the Audi.
They need stripping and polishing so they will be off to Rainbow in the near future I’ll post the finished result when there done.
Polishing Mercedes Rims
Well i’m going to have a go at polishing a set of Mercedes rims i’ve had sitting around for a couple of months. There off a CL 600 S600 coupe, so i’m buying a small sander and brought a polishing set of a guy on Edition 38. I’ll post the progress and results!
